Before the Shofar Sounds: The Power of Jewish-Palestinian Solidarity this High Holidays

In Our Name’s community of Jewish leaders and donors is preparing to mark our most sacred days of the year by deepening our material solidarity with Palestine. Our ancestors were subjected to starvation, ethnic cleansing, and genocide, and their memory clearly calls us to take bold action to intervene in this genocide against Palestinians.

Join this special event, “Before the Shofar Sounds,” to step into action over these High Holidays and participate in this historic campaign to move $1M to Palestine on our path to our ambitious $10M goal.

In this briefing, Brad Lander, Linda Sarsour, and Rabbi Mordechai Leibling will share their reflections on the importance of Jewish-Palestinian solidarity. Additionally, Deborah Sagner, founding donor of In Our Name, will share her commitment to funding Palestinian liberation organizing and her observations about witnessing this growing movement of Jews moving money to support Palestinian freedom.

Speakers include:

  • Brad Lander is the Comptroller of New York City and the highest ranking Jewish elected official in city government. Lander ran for Mayor in 2025 and cross-endorsed fellow candidate Zohran Mamdani, declaring “Jewish New Yorkers and Muslim New Yorkers are not going to be divided” and connecting the Jewish value of b’tzelem Elohim to promoting the safety of Jews, Palestinians, and Muslims alike, from NYC to Gaza.

  • Linda Sarsour is an award-winning racial justice and civil rights activist, seasoned community organizer, direct action strategist, and mother of three. She is a Palestinian Muslim American and a self-proclaimed “pure New Yorker, born and raised in Brooklyn!,” the co-founder of the first Muslim online organizing platform, MPower Change and co-founder of Until Freedom, an intersectional racial justice organization focused on direct action and power building in communities of color.

  • Rabbi Mordechai Liebling is a member of Rabbis for Ceasefire and the Vice-Chair of the Faith in Action Board, the largest faith-based community organizing network in the US. He is faculty emeritus of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, a former Executive Director of the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, a former Executive VP  of Jewish Funds for Justice (now Bend the Arc), and a co-founder of Truah. He serves on the Boards of the Shalom Center and the Faith in Politics Institute. He leads workshops on antisemitism across the country.

  • Deborah Sagner is a donor activist, a founding donor to In Our Name, and President of the Sagner Family Foundation.
